.org Domain Name Registration

The .org domain name typically describes an organisation of sorts, and unlike .net, this can almost be assumed of a website.

Websites whose intention is to bring together a group or community, or to present a real-world organisation online, should consider a .org domain name. It is highly recommended to purchase the equivalent .com if it is available, however the .org might be more suitable for promotion. See multiple domain name hosting for information on how to point both the .org and .com domain names at the same website.

A .org domain name will cost the same as a .com and a .net. You do not need to be a registered organisation to purchase a .org; similarly to .com and .net, the intended use is only a suggestion.
